The Learning Commons provides a comfortable haven for students to study, read, write, research, collaborate, receive academic support and expand their academic horizons.
See yourself searching for journal articles, consulting online encyclopedias and reading e-books in the LC. The Saint Joseph Prep Learning Commons maintains a growing collection of excellent print and electronic resources to support the curriculum. Students are encouraged to use all available databases, e-books and print resources when conducting research.
Biography Reference Bank -- A searchable biographical database that includes full-text articles from Current Biography and World Authors, as well as other leading journals and magazines. See Mrs. Walkins for the log-in information.
Boston Globe -- As members of the Massachusetts Library System we can access the Boston Globe Archives through Proquest's News & Issues databases.
Boston Public Library Databases -- The Boston Public Library offers remote access to all residents of the Commonwealth for its electronic resources. Use your BPL Library card to log in or sign up for an E-card at the BPL site.
Encyclopedia Britannica -- As members of the Massachusetts Library System, we have access to the online version of Encyclopedia Britannica.
Gale Databases - Full suite of databases provided by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the agency of state government responsible for the improvement of library services throughout the Commonwealth.
E-Point Books -- E-books provided by Rosen Publishing. Log in and read e-books online in the Library or at home any time, day or night. Ask Mrs. Walkins for our user name and password.
Follett Shelf E-books -- Read e-books online in the Library or at home any time, day or night. Download the Follett Reader app onto your iPad and ask Mrs. Walkins
OWL -- The Purdue Online Writing Lab offers free resources to students and teachers including MLA citation information, resources for ESL students and tips on avoiding plagiarism.
Be yourself in the LC and borrow just the right book for you for independent reading. The Learning Commons has an extensive circulating fiction and non-fiction print collection and invites everyone to become an active member of our reading community.
